Ofsted – Raising standards with training videos

OBJECTIVE

LRI has been Ofsted’s preferred video supplier since 2012. In that time we have worked on many and varied projects ranging from video reports about education in the prison sector to inspection training in the special educational needs sector through to an internal training video on Managing with Confidence.

In 2016 Ofsted asked LRI to make a series of training films for Early Years Inspectors showcasing the breadth of the curriculum and how activities in understanding the world, expressive arts and design, and physical development support other areas of learning. As well as for internal use, the films needed to be repurposed for an external audience on the internet.

SOLUTION

LRI worked with Ofsted to identify 6 settings across the country where the videos would be filmed. At each location we worked with our experienced camera and sound crew to film children whose ages ranged from 3 to 6. Working with children this young does come with its own unique set of challenges, not least in making sure that the children are comfortable with a film crew in the classroom. This was achieved by giving them time to play with all the equipment before the filming started, and before you know it they had moved on to their next activity and we were forgotten about!

VERDICT

The training films are being well received by Inspectors and by the public on the Ofsted YouTube channel.

“I just wanted to say thank you for a superb set of films, which I’m sure will be incredibly useful to the sector. I thank Elliot and his team for their patience and support while we found our way through the production process”.
